What if you want upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) from 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) but can’t do over the Internet? Maybe your connection is not fast enough or just not reliable to perform the upgrade. Well, you can always upgrade using a CD/DVD ISO image.
If you have access to faster more reliable connections like from a library or school, download the image from Ubuntu site and burn it onto a CD/DVD. Then when you get home use it to upgrade your system. This brief tutorial is going to show you how to do it.
Objectives:
- Upgrade to Ubuntu 12.04 from 11.10 using the iso image.
- Enjoy!
To get started, first go and download and burn Ubuntu ISO image onto a CD/DVD disc. Then take the disc to your Ubuntu PC and boot from it.
Next, click ‘Install Ubuntu’
Then click ‘Continue’ Since your Internet connection is not reliable, you probably don’t want to download updates while upgrading Ubuntu. It may just add more delays to the process.
Next, choose the 2nd option shown below (Upgrade Ubuntu 11.10 to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) and click ‘Install Now’
Make sure to use the same username and password you’re currently using on this screen and click ‘Continue’
Wait for the upgrade to complete and click ‘Restart Now’ when you see the screenshot shown below.
That’s it! All your documents and folders should stay intact after upgrading.
Enjoy!
