Change WiFi Password Windows 10
Few days ago I received a call from a friend who needed help figuring out why his laptop wasn’t connecting to his WiFi router after changing his WiFi password in Windows 10.
After quickly looking at the laptop, I asked him if something changed recently.. he replied that he just changed the WiFi password.
When he told me he just changed the WiFi password, I told him to enter the new password to connect.
Laptop Won’t Connect to WiFi Windows 10
In this situation, the laptop wan’t even allowing him to type the new password. It would just try to automatically connect and fail with error “Can’t connect to network”
After listening and understanding the situation, I quickly realized that the laptop already has the old password saved and it’s using the old password to authenticate and this was the reason it was failing.
To resolve the situation when laptop won’t connect to WiFi on windows 10, one needs to instruct the computer to forget the old (saved) password. Doing that will allow the computer to prompt for a password if you wish to connect again.
The problem here is the process of telling Windows to forget a WiFi password has been radically changed with Windows 10.
In Windows 8 and previous versions, one only needs to right-click on the WiFi network and select Forget this Network to forget a network. The same process with your phone.
Not in Windows 10. In Windows 10, to forgot a network, one needs to go to Start –> Settings –> Network & Internet ..
Then on the WiFi settings page, select Manage Wi-Fi settings.
Next, select the Wi-Fi network and click Forget
That’s it! The process has been changed in Windows 10 by adding multiple steps and clicks for this simple task.
If you have similar problem and your Windows computer won’t connect to a Wi-Fi connection, try these steps to see if that will fix the problem.
If you didn’t change your password, try it anyway. It might just fix something.
